Target setting

The tasks I have left to do are researching media laws and ethical procedures to explain how I will try to follow and use them.  I need to see why branding is important to artist and producers, by looking a 2-3 different artists and see how they brand themselves, what are the similarities and what are the differences. Also need to search the current trends in music videos, why they are still important and how access and distribution methods have changed over time, focusing on my chosen genre (dance).

In my group there are 5 people. Here are each of our job roles:

  • Jack (me)-  Editing, character
  • Oscar- Character, Filming
  • Ollie- Editing, Main character
  • Tom- Filming, Character
  • Scott- Filming
 Reflection

From my research so far I have learnt the conventions of a dance genre music video, this will help massively when it comes to filming our music video as we now know what to include and what the audience is looking for within a music video. I have found out what setting, costumes, camera shots, editing pace and cuts and lighting that is used to create an effective dance music video. I have realised why artists social media accounts are set up in a certain way and the way they use them to be very effective and stand out to their fanbase, where they can easily communicate with their following. I have compared music videos of all different genres, making it easier for me to spot the genre of song by watching the music video and I now know what the conventions of each genre are. Furthermore I have learnt the different types of music video which are; abstract, narrative and performance, and what each of them include to know what sort of music video it is. I know where music videos originated from and when the first music video was made.

The research has helped me create an idea for my music video, as I can now think of a suitable location, costumes, props and I know what I need to include in order to suit the conventions of a dance genre music video. I can now get the fundamentals before putting them in place.

As we haven't started to film our music video, I have not been able to improve my editing skills. I look forward to working on my editing once we film the music video
